Pause and resume an account

You stop all work for one account (or several) for a while, for example during a warehouse stock count, and start it again later with nothing lost.

Before you begin

Who can do this: an Operator.

Time needed: 1 minute to pause; 1 minute to resume, plus a minute or two for the catch-up to run.

Before you start: know why you are pausing and tell your colleagues. A paused account is easy to forget: its offers keep waiting until someone resumes it. The amber PAUSED tag beside it in the sidebar is there to remind everyone.

An account can be paused and in Preview at the same time. Its status then reads Paused (the word names what to deal with first), and its banner offers Go Live and Resume side by side. Resume starts it again, but it stays in Preview:

eMAG BG paused and in Preview: an amber Paused status beside the name, and the banner "Paused: nothing is imported, recalculated or sent. 454 stock updates wait as Waiting to send. It is also in Preview: after you resume, nothing is sent until you go Live." with Go Live and Resume

Steps

Pause one account

  1. Open the account from the sidebar (or Ctrl K and its name).

  2. Click Pause in the header, beside More. (The account's Settings tab ends with the same button under Pause the account, and the ⋯ menu of its row on the Accounts page has it too.)

  3. A dialog asks Pause Fashion Days RO?: "Nothing is imported, recalculated or sent to the marketplace for Fashion Days RO until it is resumed. Stock updates keep waiting."

The Pause Fashion Days RO? dialog, with the red Pause button and the Cancel button

Click Pause (red, because it stops the sync), or Cancel to change nothing.

Resume one account

  1. Open the paused account. Its status reads Paused, and the amber banner says how many stock updates wait.

Fashion Days RO while paused: an amber Paused status beside the name and the banner "Paused: nothing is imported, recalculated or sent. 96 stock updates wait as Waiting to send." with a Resume button

  2. Click Resume in the banner. It acts at once, with no confirmation. (Settings → Resume the account and the row's ⋯ menu on Accounts do the same.)

Several accounts at once

On the Accounts page, tick the accounts and use Pause or Resume in the bar at the bottom. Pausing several asks once (Pause 3 accounts?, with their names). A button only acts on the accounts it applies to and says how many, for example Pause (2) when one of the three is already paused; when it applies to none, it is greyed out and says why ("All selected accounts are already paused."). The message says how many were done, for example "3 accounts paused. Nothing is sent for them until they are resumed."

What you should see

After Pause:

  • A message: "Fashion Days RO is paused. Nothing is sent until it is resumed."
  • The status reads Paused in the header, on the Accounts page and on the Overview's accounts table; an amber PAUSED tag appears beside the account in the sidebar. Pause in the header gives way to Resume in the banner.
  • PIM changes still update each offer's Stock to publish, and the offers stay Waiting to send.
  • The Overview's tiles Offers in sync, Waiting to send and Needs a fix leave the account out while it is paused.

After Resume:

Fashion Days RO right after Resume: a green Sending status and banner, and the message "Fashion Days RO is resumed; its offers are being imported and its waiting stock updates sent."

  • The message: "Fashion Days RO is resumed; its offers are being imported and its waiting stock updates sent." For an account in Preview it says instead that nothing is sent to the marketplace.
  • The status reads Sending again (or Preview), and the PAUSED tag is gone from the sidebar.
  • Stock Sync catches up: it imports the offers, recalculates them and sends what is waiting (if Live). These are requested together and can overlap. Only the latest number of each offer goes out, not every step in between. For a few thousand offers the whole catch-up takes a minute or two; watch it in the account's Activity tab or in Activity → Sync runs.
  • The account's Activity tab records both actions with your e-mail address.

If something goes wrong

You seeDo this
Enter the connection's credentials before resumingThe account has no usable password yet. Enter the credentials, then click Resume again.
Nothing was changed: the message broker (RabbitMQ) is unavailable…Stock Sync's internal message queue is down; the account stays paused. Try Resume again once it is back.
The account resumes but nothing is sentRead its status: Preview sends nothing (go Live), Suspended needs Recover as well. Resuming does not recover, and recovering does not resume.
"… is resumed, but its offer import and waiting stock updates were not requested …"The account is active. The waiting updates go out by themselves once the message queue is back; use More → Import offers later.
A bulk message ends with "Refused: …"Those accounts were not changed; the message names each one and why. The others were.
An account is Paused and you do not know whyIts Activity tab shows who paused it and when. Ask them before resuming.
You do not see Pause or ResumeYou are a viewer. See I can't see the buttons.

Pausing works even while the message queue is down; resuming needs it. See Troubleshooting and Messages and what they mean.

Example

The warehouse counts stock on Sunday from 08:00 to 12:00, and the PIM's figures jump around during the count.

  • 07:55 Radu opens Fashion Days RO, clicks Pause and confirms. The message says "Fashion Days RO is paused. Nothing is sent until it is resumed." He writes in the team chat that Fashion Days RO is paused for the count.
  • 08:00–12:00 3,000 offers change Stock to publish several times each. The banner's count of waiting updates climbs from 96 to 3,096. Nothing reaches the marketplace.
  • 12:10 The warehouse confirms the count. Radu clicks Resume in the banner. The message says the offers are being imported and the waiting updates sent.
  • 12:12 The account's Activity tab shows an Offer import, a Recalculation and a Sending round with about 3,000 published. Waiting is back to a handful.
